I've never been very good at bios. They've always seemed rather self-serving to me - I guess that's the purpose, huh?! After nearly 30 years in radio, I still find it fascinating and somewhat confusing that you would want to know a bit more about me. Thank you! Thank you for your curiosity about me and especially thank you for listening to Big Country 97.9!
I was born in Denver and reared just south of Greeley in the very small town of LaSalle. I graduated from Valley High School in Gilcrest in 1981 and – some years later – graduated from Colorado State University in Fort Collins with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Sciences with minors in Media Studies and Political Science. Go State! Yes, I’m fascinated by communications and by people!
My radio travels have taken me far and wide including stops in my home state of Colorado, Austin and San Antonio in Texas. Now through the miracle of technology, I am fortunate to be heard on four radio stations in two states and two countries - yes, countries! After more than a two year stint of hosting The James Gang, an issues-oriented talk show on Fox News Radio 600 KCOL, I'm back on the FM having fun again in the music world.
I adore what I do. I keep trying to leave the radio business and somehow it keeps dragging me back in. I guess God puts you where he wants you, huh?! Radio is not an ego thing for me. In fact, I'm rather uncomfortable being recognized in public. I'm just another schmoo doing my job like everyone else.
My life changed for the better - much better - on May 3, 1997, when I married my lovely wife, Julie Wood. To steal a line from a movie, She completes me. I love her so much it hurts.
My life got even better (praise God) on August 23, 2007 when the judge banged the gavel and made the adoption of Johnathan Scott Jack James. Jackie is 5-years old, is our first child and takes me to levels of love I did not know I was capable of. I've littered this site with his photos. Look for Jack and the rest of my family in the photo galleries.
Julie, Jack and I live in Johnstown, are active in our community and are big advocates for our little town. Johnstown is rapidly growing and it's a fun time to live in our community and watch it develop. I began serving the community as chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission in the winter of 1999. I was elected to the Johnstown Board of Trustees in April 2002, re-elected (huh?!) in April 2006 and re-elected again (double huh?!) in April 2010 and continue to enjoy my service to the community on that board. Yes - I'm a politician! But I like to think the board I serve on is very in-touch with the community we serve and continually look out for Johnstown's best interests.
