We talked about this last week. It's an online video featuring a guy doing research with plastic animals to see if drivers would swerve to hit them or not. It's actually very funny. Scott fessed up to occassionally swerving to hit a jack rabbit in his youth. Our guess, here's the video Blake saw...
Well, Blake found the same humor that we did and his world came crashing in around him.
On Friday (July 27th), Blake took to Twitter to write, "Does anyone know if the Eastern Box turtle is protected in Oklahoma? If so I didn't just swerve to the shoulder of the road to smash one." What was meant to be a joke blew up in Blake's face, as he was barraged by people responding with anger. Even talk show host Ellen DeGeneresweighed in on the controversy, tweeting on Monday (July 30th), "@BlakeShelton Here's what's funny: knock-knock jokes. Here's what's not funny: animal cruelty."
Blake really fired back at twitter user @turtlefeed, who said, "You might want to stop insulting people who are concerned about turtles, Mr. Animal Lover." Blake replied with "Hey @turtlefeed . . . I solely have raised over a million dollars in animal rescue/conservation alone . . . How much have you raised? Oh. Ok. Next!"
Blake wrapped up the feud by tweeting, "The best part of all of this is that the dumb asses didn't even look to see that I'm not even in Oklahoma today!! I'm in North Dakota!! Do they even have turtles in North Dakota?!!! God almighty!!! What's wrong with people?! Get a life!! Get a job!! Get laid!! For once!!!"
"Can you imagine what this world would be like if people spent this much time worrying about people. I assure you NO turtles heard my joke . . ."
Blake did have a change of heart, apologizing once and for all by tweeting, "Ok. . . Now that 'Turtle-Gate' is over I want to apologize for my ignorant joke . . . I never ran over a turtle. It wasn't even possible. And also I'd like to thank my followers for always having my back!!! Y'all know my sense of humor. And yes it's screwed up . . . "
- Blake continues on his Well Lit & Amplifiedtour on Friday (August 3) in George, Washington.
- His new season of The Voice begins airing on NBC on September 10th.
